The Proximator® by Karl Schumacher is the first and original instrument that revolutionized atraumatic extractions. By combining the razor-thin precision of the patented Periotome with the strength and familiarity of a Luxating Elevator, Karl Schumacher created a breakthrough solution that allows clinicians to perform atraumatic extractions faster and more predictably - minimizing unwanted forces on surrounding bone and protecting delicate hard and soft tissue.

Designed for use at the beginning of any extraction, the Proximator® is less technique-sensitive than traditional Periotomes, making it easier to master. Inserted vertically into the PDL space, parallel to the long axis of the root, it severs the periodontal ligament and expands the alveolus laterally toward the mesial or distal. This approach greatly reduces the need for traditional elevation and luxation with forceps, creating a larger path of delivery for the root structure while safeguarding the fragile buccal wall. Its sharp, thin leading edge aids insertion even when the root is broken down at or below the gumline.
